More Ontarians looking to buy a new home in 2009

A recent survey by the Royal Bank of Canada, and conducted by Ipsos Reid, indicates that home buying intentions in Ontario are up from last year. They are comparable to but just below 2007 statistics.

Hamonization of GST and PST ??

Statistics from CMHC , with regards to imposed charges on new housing, indicate that if there is a harmonization of the GST and PST , it would have devastating consequences to the housing industry. This massive tax hike would slow down an industry that is already being hit hard by the economic downturn. It would result in job losses and an expansion of the underground economy. If the harmonization of the GST and PST goes through, it could add at least $15,000 to the cost of a new home.
